Trump before the Davos Economic Forum: Peace Board could replace the United

President Donald Trump said today that the newly formed Peace Board "could" replace the United Nations, which he criticized as ineffective in ending wars.

“The UN just hasn’t been very useful. I’m a big fan of the potential of the UN, but it has never lived up to its potential,” Trump told reporters during a White House news conference. “The UN should have solved all the wars that I solved. I never went to them, nor did I ever think of going.”

The Peace Board was formed as part of Trump's deal to end the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. He sent invitations to world leaders this week to serve on the panel, including Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The reception has been somewhat mixed. French President Emmanuel Macron has said he will not accept it, citing questions about the board's scope.

Earlier on Tuesday, the UN's top humanitarian official, Tom Fletcher, said that Trump's Peace Board will not replace his organization.

"I am clear and my colleagues are clear that the United Nations is not going anywhere," he told CNN's Becky Anderson.
