Execution of the sniper in England/ Who is the 26-year-old who surrendered in

Armando Marku, the 26-year-old wanted by British authorities for murder, has decided to surrender this Tuesday to the Tirana Police.

Mark had been wanted for 7 years after being accused of involvement in the murder of a former sniper in the city of Hartlepool, England, an event that occurred in 2019.

But two other Albanians, Sajmir Dodoveci and Eugert Merizaj, known on TikTok as 'Babalja', are also accused of this incident.

After being extradited from Belgium, Eugert Merizaj faced a trial in court. He pleaded not guilty to the charges as advised by his lawyer. In the end, the court found him guilty as an accomplice in the murder and the judge sentenced him to 32 years in prison. After Koçi Selamaj, who was sentenced to 36 years in prison, Merizaj, originally from Ballshi, is the second Albanian to serve such a heavy sentence.

He applied, and the Fier court approved the request to continue serving his sentence in a prison in Albania.

As part of ongoing investigations between Cleveland Police, the National Crime Agency (NCA) and international partners, Albanian national, Sajmir Dodoveci, 40, was arrested at a train station in Brussels on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. Dodoveci was extradited to the United Kingdom and subsequently charged with the murder of Kurdish man Hemawand Ali Hussain, 32, who was shot at close range inside a house on Charterhouse Street in September 2019.

He appeared on January 9 at Teesside Magistrates' Court and was remanded in custody until his appearance at Teesside Crown Court on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.

Extensive previous investigations by Cleveland Police led to the life sentence of Eugert Merizaj for the murder of Hussain. He had fled the UK after the murder and was also tracked down in Belgium, extradited back to England and taken to trial, where he was found guilty.

Meanwhile, 26-year-old Armando Marku was the last of the accused to remain at large, until this Tuesday when he decided to surrender to the Tirana police.

Hussain had been a sniper with Kurdish forces and had also fought against ISIS in northern Iraq, while the circumstances and causes of his killing are unknown.
