Early elections, PDK and LDK open the doors, AAK and Nisma compete alone

Political parties in Kosovo are continuing to prepare for this month's early elections. Every day, the parties are introducing new figures who will also be candidates for deputies. The two largest opposition parties, PDK and LDK, have appeared more active. The latter will also include Ukë Rugova, the son of the historic president Ibrahim Rugova, on the list.
"I believe that these are qualitative accessions and with such proven figures in terms of their professional life before joining these political parties, I believe that they are added value not only for the parties they have joined but tomorrow as potential leaders of certain departments," said Valdet Hoxha, an expert on political issues.
Ramush Haradinaj's Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and Fatmir Limaj's Social Democratic Initiative, which competed in a coalition in the February elections, will compete separately in the December 28 elections. Meanwhile, the Vetëvendosje Movement formalized a coalition with the Guxo List and the Alternative party, which were joined by the Christian Democratic Party.
The initiative has been in continuous talks with PDK and LDK for a possible coalition, but nothing has been achieved. In the eyes of political experts in Pristina, Limaj risks not crossing the threshold by running alone.
"I have my reservations about the Initiative and it would not be wise if they compete alone because the latest results do not give hope that it can be translated into a certain number of votes that would be sufficient to raise the 5% threshold."
Meanwhile, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, which in the last local elections managed to retain the five municipalities in which it led, is seen in a better position.
"I consider that the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo is comfortable and the recent results of the local elections have validated a real force on the ground and throughout Kosovo, so I do not believe that it is at any risk of crossing the threshold."
As of Thursday, the Central Election Commission has certified 17 political parties for the December 28 elections, three coalitions, two civic initiatives and one independent candidate./ A2
