Serie A/ Roma gets green light for new 1 billion euro stadium

The Roma club has taken a decisive step towards the realization of a historic project. The Municipality of Rome has approved the technical and economic feasibility project for the construction of the new stadium of the yellows, a gigantic investment that is expected to reach a value of around 1 billion euros.

The new plant will be built in the Pietralata area and according to the current plan, works are expected to start in early 2027. The final approval of the local authorities closes the administrative phase of the process, while the next step will be the environmental impact assessment, a necessary procedure before construction can begin.

The Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, confirmed that the aim is for the first foundation stone of the stadium to be laid in the first months of 2027. According to him, the latest vote completed the administrative procedures and the project will now enter the technical phase.

The investment will not be financed by public funds. Around 700 million euros will be used for the construction of the stadium itself, while another 300 million euros will go towards the urban regeneration of the northeastern area of the Italian capital, which will also include the creation of new green spaces. Furthermore, the Verdun club has also foreseen an additional fund of 100 million euros for projects that will bring direct benefits to the city.

The new stadium is expected to have a capacity of around 60,000 spectators and will allow Roma to move away from the 'Stadio Olimpico', a facility that is currently shared with rivals Lazio.
