First attack on Iran by a Gulf country confirmed, ballistic missiles fired from

The first case of an attack on Iran from a Persian Gulf country where missiles were launched from Bahraini territory has been confirmed by the New York Times. The small Gulf state is home to the “U.S. Fifth Fleet,” a base that was attacked by Iran on the first day of the conflict. The video does not clearly show who launched the missiles, whether American or Bahraini forces, but defense experts who analyzed the footage say at least one missile was fired from a U.S. HIMARS launcher.

The Bahraini government has denied involvement in any offensive operations and has declined to comment on whether the video shows US operations from its territory. The video was released on March 7 near a residential area and airport in northern Bahrain, showing two missiles being launched towards Iran. Security experts Wes J. Bryant and Fabian Hoffmann assessed the launcher as a US-made M142 HIMARS vehicle. US forces have confirmed the use of the HIMARS system in operations against Iran. Posts from CENTCOM have described the capability of these launchers as a “deep strike against the Iranian regime.”

Since the start of the US-Israeli attacks on Iran, Tehran has fired more than 100 missiles and 191 drones into Bahrain, causing 12 civilian casualties and damage to the city’s infrastructure, including oil refineries and water plants. A 29-year-old woman was killed in the capital Manama in an attack that the Iranian interior ministry called “provocative.” Meanwhile, most Gulf states have condemned Iran but have not publicly joined in offensive operations against it, worried about the potential escalation of the conflict on their territory.

Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, warned his neighbors to limit military cooperation with the US, suggesting closing bases to avoid further escalation in the region.
