Kosovo's President, Vjosa Osmani, has invited the heads of political parties to a meeting, following the failure of the prime minister-designate, Glauk Konjufca, to secure sufficient votes to form a government.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo, the Democratic League of Kosovo, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo and the Social Democratic Initiative have confirmed that they will participate in the 10:30 meeting.

According to the Constitution, if the government is not elected even in the second attempt, the president of Kosovo announces elections, which must be held no later than 40 days from the date of their announcement. New elections are expected to be held in January.

The Kosovo Assembly on Wednesday voted against the formation of a government with Prime Minister Glauk Konjufca.

Only 56 MPs voted in favor of forming the Government according to the proposal of the Vetëvendosje Movement, 4 abstained, and 53 were against. The parties that were in opposition until now, PDK, LDK, AAK, were against, while Nisma abstained.
