Kosovo, police operation against corruption, Svecla: Several senior public

The acting Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has announced that a large-scale operation against abuse of official duty and corruption has been successfully finalized.

This operation, carried out by the Kosovo Police in cooperation with the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (KIA) and other relevant institutions, has led to the arrest of several senior officials suspected of involvement in illegal actions.

Sveçla explained that the arrests were made after a months-long investigation, where strong evidence of abuse and corruption related to the process of expropriation of private properties was obtained. According to him, this operation is an important step in the fight against corruption and abuse of official position, sending a clear message to those who violate the law.

Among the suspects are the head of the Gracanica branch of the Court, with the initials JM, officials from the law firm NK, MD and BD, court expert Sh.T., an official from the Department of Expropriations, TAK official GL, as well as the former Minister of Trade and Industry, with the initials FI.

According to the authorities' suspicions, the persons involved acted as an organized criminal group, abusing their official positions and causing significant damage to the budget of the Republic of Kosovo. It is suspected that through corruption they initiated and filed cases at the Gracanica Court to illegally obtain compensation for expropriations carried out during the years 2011–2015.

"Today we are putting an end to the time when public officials misused the budget of the Republic of Kosovo with impunity," declared Sveçla, congratulating the institutions for, as he said, another success in the uncompromising fight against corruption and abuse of official duty.

He emphasized that political will, inter-institutional cooperation and citizen involvement are bringing concrete results towards building a legal state, developed and protected from any form of crime.
