Lebanese Prime Minister: We are not afraid of Hezbollah, but we want to avoid

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has stated that his government will not be afraid of the Hezbollah group, but at the same time is not seeking confrontation with it.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Paris alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, Salam stressed that "there can be no state if it does not have a monopoly on weapons," underlining the importance of the state's sole authority over the use of force.

He added that while the government's goal is to disarm Hezbollah, this does not mean seeking a confrontation. "On the contrary, we want to avoid confrontation, but we will not be intimidated by Hezbollah and those who incite tensions and risk pushing the country towards internal conflict," he said.

Salam also stressed that Lebanon will continue to pursue the path of diplomacy, including through direct talks with Israel, in an effort to reduce tensions and stabilize the situation in the region.
