Executed in Greek prison, Albanian Jani Aliaj had escaped an assassination

49-year-old Albanian Jani Aliaj was killed yesterday in Koridhalos Prison by a Greek prisoner, who entered his cell and stabbed him, leaving him dead.

According to Greek media , Jani Aliaj had previously escaped an assassination attempt about 6 months ago in the same prison.

Aliaj had once escaped from another prison, but Greek police had arrested him again. The 49-year-old was targeted by his rivals and had even been held in a cell with a police officer who was accused of drugs.

The Albanian was a well-known figure in the criminal world, sentenced to life in prison in Greece for the murder of an Albanian, serious injury and possession of a weapon, events that occurred in Athens in 2006.

Also sentenced to life in absentia in Albania for the murder of Elton Çiço on May 1, 2016 in the former Blloku area in Tirana.
