The price of flour, oil and sugar increases by 50%! Minister: The government is

Minister Delina Ibrahimaj announced in a press conference that the war in the Middle East has begun to have its first effects on the prices of the food basket in the country, reflecting significant increases in some basic products.

During this conference, journalist Isa Myzyraj was the one who brought to attention some of the products that have experienced significant increases in recent days, mentioning tomatoes that have gone from 200 lek to 350 lek, peppers from 280 to 400 lek, as well as significant increases for products such as flour, oil and sugar.

He asked Ibrahimaj when the government would take concrete measures to reduce prices, while she replied by explaining that the Albanian state cannot intervene in prices, as this is impossible under market economy conditions.

According to the minister, the government is unable to directly intervene in determining prices, as they depend on supply and demand, but will undertake controls to avoid speculation.

"I didn't say we will intervene in prices. I also explained why we cannot apply the same mechanism because it is impossible for us to intervene in prices ," Ibrahimaj said.

Excerpt from the minister's speech:

I did not say we will intervene in prices. I also explained why we cannot apply the same mechanism because it is impossible for us to intervene in prices. I said that we are monitoring them on a daily basis and we will go out to verify that these prices are not abusive and what I said is that if we are going to have a continuous impact on consumer prices then we will support the layers that cannot afford the price increase, not even for a temporary period because as we know, wars begin and end.

And our focus is on pensioners. I have never said that we will intervene in prices, because it is impossible for us, even in the economy we have established where prices are determined by supply and demand, unlike fuel and the food market.
