Erion Veliaj files criminal complaint at Tirana prosecutor's office: My signature was forged on a court document

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has filed a criminal report today with the General Jurisdiction Prosecutor's Office in Tirana, for the criminal offense of "Forgery of documents", provided for by Article 186 of the Criminal Code.
The complaint is related to a court notification receipt, administered in the file of the Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime, which contains a signature on behalf of Erion Veliaj, as if he had personally received notice of a court decision.
According to the criminal complaint, this signature is not his, while official verifications show that the Appeals decision has never reached the Durrës Institution for the Execution of Criminal Decisions, where Veliaj is detained. This fact has been officially confirmed in writing by the Durrës Institution for the Execution of Criminal Decisions itself.
The absolute lack of real notification and the existence of a receipt with an inauthentic signature constitute direct evidence of the falsification of the act of communication, with the aim of fictitiously activating the procedural deadlines for exercising recourse to the High Court.
According to Veliaj, this action seriously violates the constitutional right to appeal, legal certainty and the principle of due process, effectively aiming at the loss of the right to recourse through the use of a false official act.
A copy of the criminal complaint has also been filed with the Supreme Court, as evidence that the procedural deadlines for exercising the recourse never legally began, due to the lack of a valid notification.
