DP Kruja branch elects new leader, Aulon Kalaja wins clearly

The Kruja branch of the Democratic Party held elections today, 19. 04. 2026, for the new leader of the Democrats in Kruja and Fushë Kruja, which have been merged into a single branch, according to the statute.
A few minutes ago, the vote counting process in the DP Branch, Kruja, was completed, with the winner being the candidate, Aulon Ylli Kalaja, who was competing with Myftar Hysen Ismailaja.
According to the official minutes, a total of 717 democrats from Kruja, Fushë Kruja, Thumana, Burizana, Cudhis, Niklë and Bubqi participated.
Aulon Kalaja has secured 622 votes, thus becoming the new Chairman of the DP, Krujë Branch.
Immediately after the end of the process, Aulon Kalaja, in his first post-victory speech, emphasized that the result was not simply a matter of numbers, but a mandate for the “unification of democratic hearts.” His main message was a clear call for unity within the party.
Aulon Kalaja: I greet you all and thank you for, first of all, your participation. A record number of Democrats voted, both in Fushë-Krujë and in Krujë. We are here today after a result that has nothing to do with the numbers, but rather with the unity of democratic hearts and the political project that we have. They are with Andja, with Hamdiu, with Prela, with Maringlen, with Duri, with Bujar, with Skënder, with Atdheu, with all the other people whose names I am not mentioning, who have shown a very high level of integrity today. Therefore, my first call after the victory is only unity. Unity with all those people who are perhaps also dissatisfied, who have had their own ideas, have had their own questions, have had their own discussions, but you should know that our entire history and our entire philosophy has been for us to have a winning project, both for the municipal elections and for the parliamentary elections. Kruja, Fushë-Kruja, Thumana, Nikla, Bubqi and Cudhiu showed themselves on May 11 by making the municipality of Kruja the winner. We will return this victory to the right again, very soon in the first elections. From today we start working with the protests of the Democratic Party. From today we start working to revive the Democratic Party, to bring young people closer, but be careful, while also keeping the old ones, because they are a great asset. We are a right-wing party, we are a conservative party and we respect the old ones because we respect tradition. But, on the other hand, I want to let you know that we will open a process of new memberships. There was an extraordinary desire today from Democratic Party voters who did not have their names on the lists. We have identified them and will make them members, we will introduce them into the structures of the Democratic Party. From today we will establish 93 sections, 93 boxes, by electing a chair, secretary and vice-chair of sections. Then we will continue with the chair, then we will continue with the secretariats, with the departments and with the women's forum and the youth forum, and all the other forums that have relations with the Democratic Party of Kruja. Of course, this is a great day, because it is the starting point of a political project. We are all together. There are others, whom I extend my hand to today to cooperate and to make the Democratic Party. I am not year zero, I am the next chair of the Democratic Party. There will be a chair after me. The Democratic Party is in the hearts of the democrats. I let you know that the opposition, the path of the opposition for us will be very short. Victory!
