Moscow warns of new attacks on Ukraine, Lavrov calls Rubio: Remove American

Russia has sharply increased its threats against Kiev, warning of “continuous attacks” and urging American citizens to leave the Ukrainian capital. A day after Moscow attacked the Kiev region with hundreds of drones and a new hypersonic missile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on May 25, urging him to evacuate US diplomatic staff and citizens from Kiev. Russia justified these threats by referring to an attack on a school dormitory in the Russian-controlled Luhansk region.

In the call with Rubio, Lavrov warned that Moscow is planning to carry out "continuous attacks" on Ukrainian military targets in Kiev and on "relevant decision-making centers."

In a separate statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said foreign embassies had been informed of the possibility of new attacks targeting “Ukrainian defense industry enterprises” in Kiev. The U.S. State Department did not provide any detailed statement on Rubio’s call. However, speaking to reporters during a visit to India, Rubio confirmed Lavrov’s warning.

“Kiev has been a very dangerous place for years now,” he said. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry described the Russian warning as “brazen blackmail” aimed at intimidating foreign diplomats and international organizations based in Kiev. The ministry accused Moscow of trying to “spread panic” and said the security threat from Russia “remains the same as in previous years and months.”
