"SASPAC" file, former minister Ilir Beqaj requests a shortened trial

Former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, is requesting a summary trial in the criminal case known as "SASPAC".
According to media reports, the request was made pending the next preliminary hearing session against Beqaj and 10 co-defendants at the Special Court.
In his speech before the court, denying the charges, Beqaj requested the dismissal of the criminal case, or otherwise the return of the acts to SPAK for completion of the investigation. According to him, in the event that the file goes to trial, the former minister requested a summary trial.
In the “SASPAC” dossier, Ilir Beqaj is accused of 6 charges, committed in 27 different episodes. According to SPAK, during the time Beqaj headed the agency that managed EU funds in Albania, the former minister committed “corruption” in 2 cases, “violation of equality in tenders” in 8 cases, “falsification of documents” in 9 cases, “fraud” with serious consequences and in collaboration in 2 and 3 cases, as well as “hiding assets” in 3 cases.
Meanwhile, Beqaj is being tried in parallel in the Special Court for "theft by abuse of office" in the form of a structured criminal group, suspected of having been committed by him during the signing of the "Sterilization" concession contract.
