Tragedy in Portugal, footballer collapses on the field and dies at the age of 27
A tragedy has rocked Portuguese football during a Regional Cup match in the Algarve. Nassur Bacem, a left-back for fourth-tier side LGC Moncarapachense, died after collapsing on the pitch in the 27th minute of a match against Imortal DC.
The 27-year-old footballer suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and, despite immediate medical attention from both team staff and emergency services, died. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful and death was confirmed at the scene.
Bacem had started his career in the youth sector of Sporting Braga, before continuing in the national championships. The news of his loss has shocked not only the local football community, but also beyond.
The LGC Moncarapachense club confirmed the event through an official statement, describing the moment as one of "deep sadness" and inviting fans and the entire football community to stand by the player's family in this time of pain.
