The number of Americans giving up TikTok is increasing

After creating a joint venture dedicated to the United States, TikTok is experiencing difficult times.

The social network is experiencing operational problems due, according to a statement from the company itself, to critical problems with the IT infrastructure on which it relies.

Furthermore, Sensor Tower analysts reported a 150% rate of app uninstalls by US users.

This, according to CNBC researchers, is a consequence of both technical difficulties in using the social network and the creation of the American entity led by Adam Presser, TikTok's former chief operating officer.

Analysis from another company, App Figures, shows that, during the same period, downloads of an independent TikTok competitor, UpScrolled, have increased, climbing the charts in the US, UK and Australia.

Going from a few hundred to over 41,000 downloads in just a few days, the app created by Australian developer Issam Hijazi is reminiscent of early versions of Instagram.

This isn't the first time that events surrounding TikTok have highlighted new platforms.

In early 2025, the Chinese app RedNote became popular in the United States, following the possibility of a TikTok block by Washington.
