The trial of former President Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi will be held today. Meanwhile, it is learned that Kryemadhi's lawyer, Redi Llanaj, has not yet entered the courtroom.
The reason for this, as happened in the previous session, is thought to be the fact that Llanaj refuses to have his bag checked by security officers. The reason why Llanaj requests this is unknown.
Meanwhile, we recall that Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi, in collaboration with each other but also with other public officials, have been involved in the commission of several criminal offenses. The Special Court decided on March 18 to pass on to trial the file in charge of Ilir Meta, his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi, the latter's mother Fatime Kryemadhi, Pirro Xhixho and Ema Çoku.
Ilir Meta has been in custody since October 2024. The former president is being investigated for 3 issues: the CEZ-DIA affair, the SMI lobbying in the US, and the property investigation. Currently, SPAK has closed the investigations and his file has been sent for trial.
Ilir Meta and Monika Kryemadhi are accused of passive corruption, money laundering and failure to declare assets.
