Vienna Museum: Skanderbeg is clearly recognized as an Albanian leader

At the Vienna Art History Museum (KHM), where Gjergj Kastrioti’s helmet and sword are now displayed, Skanderbeg is now accompanied by a full historical description that clearly defines his identity, origins and role as an Albanian leader. This change comes just two months after a petition initiated by engineer Azmer Dulević and journalist Ermal Peçi requested the correction of missing information about the figure of the national hero.

The photograph dated September 18, 2025, taken at the museum, shows that the label next to Skanderbeg's helmet contained only the name of the object:

" Skanderbeg-Helm / Helmet of Skanderbeg", without any explanation of its origin, role or historical significance.

In contrast, the photo dated November 25, 2025 shows that the museum has installed a new detailed board, where Skanderbeg is presented with all the main identifying elements. This is the first time that the Vienna Museum has so clearly articulated Skanderbeg's identity as an Albanian figure and leader with royal titles known in the medieval tradition.

The petition launched by Dulević and Peçi demanded that the museum correct the information gap and establish an accurate historical description. According to the initiators, the lack of reference to Skanderbeg's Albanian origin was not only unfair, but also harmful to the historical narrative. After hundreds of signatures were collected and after the attention created in the media, the museum has reacted by revising the exhibition material.

This important news could serve as a precedent for many other European institutions that hold objects related to Albanian history, increasing the pressure for correct and professional representation.
