Did you know that today is World Turkish Coffee Day?

December 5 is celebrated globally as World Turkish Coffee Day, commemorating its inclusion on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List on December 5, 2013.

UNESCO thus recognized its deep cultural significance, unique preparation method (unfiltered, finely ground) and role as a symbol of hospitality, friendship and social closeness, not only in Turkey but also beyond.

The celebrations, regarding this day, include tastings, seminars, and the narration of this tradition, which in addition to the good and unique taste, even includes fortune telling from a cup of coffee.

Turkish coffee has been at the center of social life since it was first prepared in the 16th century and spread throughout the former territories of the Ottoman Empire along with the customs, ceremonies, and social roles that grew around it, so it even crossed geographical boundaries.

In Turkish culture, the breakfast tradition known as "kahvalti" literally translates to "before coffee," and this expression underscores how deeply coffee drinking is woven into daily rhythms.
