Early elections in Kosovo, CEC decides on recount of votes in 28 municipalities

The Central Election Commission of Kosovo has ordered a full recount of votes in 28 municipalities for the early parliamentary elections on December 28. The reason for this is inaccuracies that resulted during the process of partial counting of votes for candidates.

The Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Kreshnik Radonic, stated that the vote recount process revealed significant inaccuracies in the counting of votes for candidates, while the votes of political entities were mostly correct. The list of 28 municipalities includes the capital Pristina.

The full vote count will take place in the following municipalities: Deçan, Gjakova, Gllogovc, Gjilan, Istog, Klina, Fushë Kosovë, Kamenica, South Mitrovica, Lipjan, Novo Brdo, Obiliq, Rahovec, Peja, Podujevo, Pristina, Shtërpcë, Suhareka, Viti, Zubin-Potok, Zvecan, Malisheva, Junik, Hani i Elezit, Gracanica, Partesh, Kllokot and North Mitrovica.

Previously, in these 28 municipalities, the CEC had decided to recount only 10 percent of polling stations, while in 10 other municipalities it decided for a full recount.

Today's decision comes after a partial recount revealed large differences in the votes for candidates for deputies in the early parliamentary elections of December 28, 2025. Due to these inaccuracies, parties and civil society organizations demanded a full recount of the votes.

"Today, before the CEC meeting, this report was discussed at the meeting of the Electoral Operations Council, from which two main recommendations emerged: Recounting all polling stations for 28 other municipalities; Termination of the mandate for representatives of political entities in the Municipal Election Commission in the municipality of Prizren. Finally, on behalf of the CEC, we reiterate that we will address the findings from the recount process to the State Prosecutor's Office and at the same time offer full institutional cooperation in the investigative process ," said Radoniç.

We recall that the party that triumphed in the elections was the Vetëvendosje Movement, winning 57 seats. Albin Kurti's party managed to regain the public's trust after months of political crisis.
