Murder of Kosovo Police officer, Prosecution files charges against 6 suspects!

The Prosecution in Ferizaj announced on Friday that it has filed an indictment against six suspects for the murder of Kosovo Police Sergeant Muhamed Lika in early 2025.

Sergeant Lika was killed on the night of April 1 on the steps of the building where he lived in Kaçanik, southern Kosovo, while returning to his apartment from work.

The prosecution said in a statement on Friday that the six suspects, identified only by the initials B, RM, V.Ç, EL, SH.K and DG, are charged with aggravated murder.

"The defendants, in complicity with the minor, intentionally and with prior preparation, deprived the now deceased police officer, Sergeant ML, of his life with a firearm, where as a result of the gunshot wounds he died, [while] they fled the scene," the indictment states.

The suspects could face at least 10 years in prison for aggravated murder if found guilty, according to the Kosovo Criminal Code, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports.

Prosecutors have asked the court to order that the six suspects - arrested a few weeks after the murder - continue to be held in custody pending the start of their trial.

Last summer, prosecutors asked the court to convict the juvenile who allegedly committed the murder, aided by five other suspects.

The Ferizaj Prosecution Office said that the minor is suspected of having, in collaboration with five other suspects, followed Lika after he had finished his official duty hours to the entrance of his apartment, where he had shot him four times with a 9.19 mm caliber firearm within a period of about 47 seconds.

The prosecution has not indicated what the motives for the murder were.

But, earlier, the Director of the Kosovo Police, Gazmend Hoxha, and the Chief Prosecutor of the Basic Prosecution Office in Ferizaj, Burim Çerkini, had said that the initial suspicions were that the motives for the murder were related to the sergeant's work as a police officer.
