The value of new loans in Kosovo increases, reaching 2.68 billion euros in 2025

The value of new loans granted by commercial banks in Kosovo during 2025 reached 2.684 billion euros, marking an increase of 3.8 percent compared to 2024, according to data published by the GAP Institute.

According to GAP, the increase in lending reflects the continuation of economic activity and the demand for financing from businesses and citizens, although at the same time there has also been an increase in the cost of borrowing.

The effective interest rate on new loans has increased from 6.1 percent in 2024 to 6.4 percent in 2025.

Historical data shows that the banking sector in Kosovo has seen continuous growth in lending over the last decade.

In 2015, the value of new loans was around 1.1 billion euros, while by 2025 this amount has more than doubled, reflecting the expansion of banking activity and the increase in demand for financing.

As for interest rates, they had a downward trend from 2015 to 2022, when they reached the lowest level of around 6 percent.

However, during 2023, 2024 and 2025, a gradual increase in the effective interest rate was observed, in line with developments in international financial markets.

These developments have a direct impact on the cost of financing for businesses and households, while credit growth remains an important indicator of economic activity in the country.

The data published by GAP are based on official statistics from the Central Bank of Kosovo and reflect the performance of bank lending in the period 2015–2025.
