Kosovo/ LDK vice-chairwoman resigns, also demands Abdixhiku's removal as

Hykmete Bajrami has irrevocably resigned from the position of vice-president of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and has simultaneously demanded the resignation of the party's president, Lumir Abdixhiku, arguing that the current leadership has lost legitimacy after poor results in the December 28 elections.

In a reaction, Bajrami said that her decision is not personal or emotional, but based on the political standards that LDK has built over the years. She emphasizes that whoever receives poor election results must take responsibility and pave the way for internal elections within the party.

"Yesterday at the LDK meeting, I requested the irrevocable resignation of Mr. Abdixhiku from the position of LDK President, as a standard set by LDK itself. Respecting the same standard, I offered my irrevocable resignation from the position of LDK Vice President, on the principle that whoever gets serious election results for LDK must take responsibility and pave the way for internal elections," she wrote.

Bajrami also underlined the importance of protecting Kosovo's interests over personal or party interests, stressing that the LDK must continue to be a force defending the state, freedom, independence and democracy. According to her, the party must undergo an internal electoral process, because in the situation it is in, no other process can save it.

Thanking the citizens who voted for her, she announced that she will continue her work as a deputy within the LDK parliamentary group.

"After the results of December 28, the leadership and party bodies have lost legitimacy, therefore internal elections are needed. Internal elections in the LDK are necessary and no other process can save us from the situation we find ourselves in, " Bajrami added.

Recall that in the December 28 elections, the Vetëvendosje Movement triumphed with 51.11% of the vote, securing 57 seats in the Assembly. The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) came in second with 22 seats, while the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) received 15 seats.

The Democratic League of Kosovo, in both victory and defeat, has built and implemented standards

Yesterday at the LDK meeting, I requested the irrevocable resignation of Mr. Abdixhiku from the position of LDK President, as a standard set by the LDK itself. Respecting the same standard, I offered my irrevocable resignation from the position of LDK Vice President, on the principle that whoever gets serious electoral results for the LDK must take responsibility and pave the way for internal elections.

This action is neither personal nor emotional, but rather a respect for the political standard that LDK itself has built over the years.

Beyond the LDK's poor electoral result, the main challenge for the Republic of Kosovo remains the risk of concentrating absolute power in one political party, in one person who, for five years, has proven that his personal and party interests come before the interests of Kosovo.

LDK has never been and is not just a political party; it has been, is and will remain a defender of the state and institutions, a defender of Freedom, Independence and Democracy, but this becomes possible only when we put LDK before personal interest and Kosovo before party political interest.

After the results of December 28, the leadership and party bodies have lost legitimacy, so internal elections are necessary. Internal elections in the LDK are necessary and no other process will save us from the situation we find ourselves in.

Once again, I thank the 126,102 citizens who voted for the LDK and the 57,153 women and men who have trusted me with my political commitment.

I will continue to work for the LDK and for the interest of the country, as an elected MP in my seventh mandate in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, within the LDK Parliamentary Group.

The LDK needs reflection, responsibility, and a vision for the future, because Kosovo needs it to be strong.
