"Toy Story", the film that changed animation forever! The puppets

“Toy Story” was created as the first fully computer-animated film in 1995 after a flopped first version and the company nearly went bankrupt. The voice actors recall that their voices were shaped through childhood play and improvisation, which led to the film’s 30-year success. Toy Story 5 is due out next year.

The initial version of the animated film Toy Story, the first to be made entirely on a computer without any traditional hand-drawn animation and one of the most important works of modern cinema, was completely rejected by Disney, as the studio sought a more sarcastic tone and more improvisation.

Pixar, the company that produced the film, decided to start from scratch even though 2 years of work went to waste.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, the company was struggling for survival as, according to author David A. Price, it was on the verge of bankruptcy and relied almost entirely on Steve Jobs' financing.

Lead actors Tom Hanks, who voices Woody, Andy's cowboy doll and favorite toy, and Tim Allen, who voices Buzz Lightyear, the modern astronaut who becomes Woody's rival and then friend, say that creating the film from scratch was a difficult challenge.

John Morris, the actor who voiced Andy, also recounted details from his 1995 audition. Morris, who was only 7 years old, recalls how the audition began with a simple request, for children to bring a toy and play with it.

But he showed up with a box full of 20 X-Men soldiers, which immediately made him stand out and won him the role.

Without the success of Toy Story released in 1995, Pixar was in danger of closing down and computer animation may never have achieved the place it has in Hollywood today. Toy Story 5 is expected to be released next year.
