KLSH report: How many millions of euros of damage were caused to the state

Abuses of public funds have cost the state budget around 24 million euros in the first 9 months of last year. The assessment comes from the latest report of the Supreme State Audit Office.

Around 24 million euros was the economic damage and ineffective management of public money that the Supreme State Audit discovered during audits in the 8 months of last year. The publication of the latest report estimates that during the period January-August 2025, 148 recommendations were given on "findings with negative effects on the state budget."

The economic damage to the state budget was found to be 60% in the area of ​​expenditures and 40% in the area of ​​revenues.

"In the area of ​​expenditure, the largest share is occupied by violations found during procurement procedures and contract implementation. Meanwhile, in the area of ​​revenue, the largest share is occupied by revenues from customs activity, as a result of non-collection of customs duties, payment of customs duties, unfair exemption from VAT payment and incorrect treatment of customs violations.

"Problems have also been identified in the missing revenues from the administration of state assets and contractual relations with third parties, in the amount of 1.47 million lek ," the SAI underlines.
