"Our country cannot be compared to Venezuela" - Greenland Prime Minister: We are a democratic country, we should not panic!

Greenland's prime minister said today he wanted to restore communication with the United States, after US President Donald Trump said he wanted to take control of the autonomous Danish territory.
"The situation is not such that the United States can invade Greenland. That is not the case. So we should not panic. We should restore the good cooperation that we have had," Jens-Frederik Nielsen said during a press conference in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland.
However, he stressed that his administration "will now toughen our stance, as we are not satisfied with the situation we are in."
"We want to restore the good cooperation we had before with the US. We are trying to establish a direct line with Washington. We are open for business activities. We are working to strengthen the dialogue with allied countries and NATO. We are not at the point where we think that our country can be invaded and that this can happen overnight," he stressed.
Donald Trump, when asked by the American magazine The Atlantic about the implications for Greenland of the military operation carried out by US forces in Venezuela, stated that it is up to his partners to assess them:
"They will have to form their own opinion," he replied.
For Nielsen, one thing is certain, the situation is very different.
"Our country cannot be compared to Venezuela. We are a democratic country. It has been like this for many, many years," he stressed.
