Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife left the courtroom after the hearing, which lasted about 30 minutes.

Maduro has been ordered to appear for his next court hearing on March 17.

As discussions were taking place about a suitable date, Maduro's defense lawyer highlighted "issues with the legality of the military takeover."

He also said that he has several health and medical problems and is requesting a form that can be filled out "in order to receive appropriate medical assistance during detention."

Cilia Flores' defense attorney also said that she has several health problems.

"She has severe bruising to her ribs and we will need proper attention," says Mark Donnelly.

Maduro paused and turned from the gallery before being escorted out of the courtroom along with his wife.

Both pleaded not guilty during the proceedings.

The judge told them he would question them next at 11:00 a.m. on March 17.
