Russia welcomes new US Security Strategy: Document is in line with our vision

Russia has reacted positively to US President Donald Trump's new National Security Strategy, calling the document "largely in line" with the Kremlin's approach.

The 33-page strategy, published this week by the US administration, raises the alarm that Europe risks "civilizational extinction", while not treating Russia as a threat to the US.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the Russian news agency TASS that the document's changes broadly coincide with the Russian vision.

"We consider this a positive step," he declared, adding that Moscow will further analyze the strategy before drawing further conclusions.

EU concerned: Document's language "like that of the Kremlin"

Meanwhile, reactions in the European Union have been harsh. European officials and analysts expressed concerns about the soft tone towards Russia and assessed that many of the strategy's points resemble the Kremlin's narratives.

The document criticizes the EU for "blocking American efforts" in resolving the war in Ukraine and calls on the US to "reestablish strategic stability with Russia," which, according to the report, would also stabilize European economies.

The strategy predicts a bleak future for the continent, warning that Europe could become “unrecognizable within 20 years,” while its economic problems are “overshadowed by the real risk of the disappearance of civilization.” The document praises “European patriotic parties,” suggesting that the U.S. aims to strengthen its influence over right-wing Eurosceptic forces.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stressed that the US remains a key partner in NATO, but distanced himself from the tone of the strategy:

"Issues like freedom of expression do not belong in this strategy, at least not for Germany."
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reacted on social media by reminding Washington that

"Europe is your closest ally, not your problem."

Former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt went further, stating that the document "places itself to the right of the far right."

The strategy is considered to be closer to parties like the AfD in Germany, classified as far-right by German intelligence, signaling a strong shift in Washington's political axis on the continent.

The document warns of possible military action in Venezuela and calls for increased defense investment from Japan, South Korea, Australia and Taiwan.

Democrats in the US: "Danger to America's position in the world"

Reactions within the US are equally strong. Democratic Rep. Jason Crow called the strategy “catastrophic for America’s global standing,” while Gregory Meeks accused the Trump administration of “ignoring decades of values-based leadership.”
