Study: Who is the most dangerous driver?

A new study of 3,600 drivers reveals which age group is considered the most dangerous behind the wheel. The research, conducted in several countries around the world, examines drivers' perceptions of the behavior of other road users and how these perceptions vary by age.

Specifically, British company Scrap Car Comparison conducted a survey of 3,600 drivers from 18 countries to understand how age affects our perception of who is a good driver and who is not.

In France, the conclusion is clear, 68% of respondents believe that young people under 25 take the most risks behind the wheel. Although this percentage seems high, it is actually one of the lowest among the participating countries, as 90% of Australians and 88% of Britons identify the same age group as the most dangerous.

However, historically every younger generation is considered impulsive and careless, so these figures may not reflect the reality on the streets, but simply a common reaction to young people.

While those in their 20s look intimidating behind the wheel, those in their 30s and 40s put their passengers at ease. In France, 49% of drivers feel safer as passengers on a long journey with a driver aged 35–44. This generation seems to represent the perfect balance between experience and quick reflexes.

Opinions are divided on older drivers. 61% of French people believe that those over 75 drive too slowly. When it comes to the age at which one should stop driving, the French remain moderate. They do not give extreme opinions, as in Hungary, where 63% think one should stop driving at the age of 70, or in Italy, where 65% believe that someone can continue driving after the age of 80.
