English football against new rules, Premier League will not use VAR for corner kicks

A refereeing revolution is coming to the world of football, starting with the 2026 World Cup, but not everyone seems to be on board. While the IFAB is ready to implement changes that are not second-rate in terms of time-wasting and VAR intervention zones, the Premier League is the first championship to show its doubts.
According to Sky Sports UK, English clubs are reluctant to implement new rules that would allow VAR to decide whether or not to award a corner kick. It is not a rule that is set to become law, but an optional modification, the application of which will go from a test to this World Cup. The Premier League would like to avoid a VAR protocol that would expand its scope.
It's nothing new that in the country where football was invented, relations with the VAR system have never been good, especially now that with the new ones coming, clubs want to reduce game interruptions as much as possible and focus only on the most important episodes; red cards, goals and penalties.
However, the opposition is not for every change as it is likely that other mandatory rules such as checking a second yellow card leading to a red card could be adopted in English football. So, the new VAR protocol is in the hands of the US, Mexico and Canada tournaments with the Premier League eyeing it.
