Rubio predicts restoration of US diplomatic presence in Venezuela

The US envisages a permanent US diplomatic presence in Venezuela in the "near future".
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has stated that the US has a team on the ground assessing the situation.
"We believe we can open a U.S. diplomatic mission in the near future, which will allow us to receive real-time information and interact," Rubio said at a hearing before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee.
He also stressed that the United States has established a "respectful and productive" line of communication with Venezuela's interim leaders.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was arrested along with his wife on January 3, during a spectacular US military operation in Caracas. He was taken and held in custody in New York, as US authorities intend to try him for “drug trafficking”.
Maduro's former vice president was sworn in as interim president on February 5, after US President Donald Trump said Washington intends to "dictate" decisions made in Venezuela "until further notice."
