Snowfall in Paris, some flights canceled

Heavy snowfall has caused the cancellation of some flights from Orly and Charles de Gaulle airports in Paris.

France's Civil Aviation Authority said it had asked airlines to cancel around 15% of flights scheduled for this afternoon and evening due to adverse weather conditions in the region. According to a spokesman for the agency, airlines are free to choose which flights to cancel, provided they reduce the number of take-offs and landings.

Meanwhile, authorities have called on drivers to exercise increased caution in traffic, due to snow and low temperatures.

Road restrictions have also been imposed. Heavy vehicles have been banned from some sections of Brittany and Normandy, while in the Paris region speed limits have been lowered and heavy vehicles have been restricted from major road networks.
