Danish Prime Minister: Trump's pressure on Greenland is unacceptable

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that the pressure exerted by former US President Donald Trump on Greenland is unacceptable, stressing that the island does not want to become part of the United States.

In an interview with Danish public broadcaster DR, Frederiksen said Trump's statements about buying Greenland should be taken seriously, but added that Denmark's and Greenland's own position has been clear. "Greenland has repeatedly stated that it does not want to be part of the US," she said.

Trump has repeatedly said he wants to buy Greenland, arguing that the island is needed for defense reasons. In this context, Frederiksen warned that any aggressive action against a NATO member country would have serious consequences, stating that "if the United States attacks another NATO country, everything stops."

There were also reactions from European partners. German Foreign Minister Johannes Vandeful said that Greenland belongs to Denmark and that NATO could discuss strengthening its defense if the need arises. Meanwhile, France declared that Greenland belongs to its people, while a European Commission spokesman stressed that the European Union will continue to defend the principle of national sovereignty.
