Chaos in Venezuela after Nicolas Maduro's arrest, gunfire near presidential

Gunshots were fired during the early hours of the morning in central Caracas, causing panic and immediate security measures near the presidential palace Palacio Miraflores.

According to reports , the shooting involved automatic weapons and anti-aircraft machine guns and was concentrated in the area where the presidential palace is located, where Delcy Rodríguez, appointed to replace Nicolás Maduro, was sworn in the day before as acting president, following Maduro's capture in a US air operation on Saturday.

Videos posted on social media show columns of military and armored vehicles with armed men, as well as troops advancing in battle formation along the streets of the capital. The footage also shows motorcyclists armed with rifles, similar to paramilitary units that answer to the Interior Ministry. The windows of several buildings are reported to have been hit by bullets.

The shooting began at around 1:30 a.m. Italian time and continued at high intensity for more than half an hour. Authorities later told local television that "the situation is under control."

According to some sources, the incident may have been caused after two drones were seen flying over the presidential palace, which has increased fears of a new American intervention. This is suspected to have led to the reaction of security forces and the activation of anti-aircraft weapons to protect state institutions.

Following the incident, government buildings in central Caracas were evacuated. Colombian broadcaster Caracol reported that ministries and state institutions in the area of the clashes were closed, while surrounding businesses and neighborhoods were cordoned off for security reasons, leaving citizens and customers trapped inside.

Venezuelan authorities have not yet provided a detailed explanation for the causes of the shooting, while the situation in the capital remains tense.
