"Trump's interest in Greenland is not new" - US Secretary Rubio says he will meet with Danish officials next week!

The ongoing debate over US interest in Greenland was addressed today (January 7) by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
He spoke to reporters in Washington, without going into detail about possible military scenarios.
Rubio was asked whether the US government was prepared to rule out the possibility of military intervention regarding Greenland.
He avoided commenting on the substance, stating that this was not the right time for such a discussion.
"I'm not here to talk about Denmark or military intervention. I'll meet with them next week," he said, adding: "We'll have these discussions then. At this time, I have nothing more to add."
However, Rubio referred to the United States' early interest in Greenland, stressing that this is not a new idea. As he said, the issue was raised in the past by Donald Trump, during his first presidential term.
"Donald Trump's interest in buying Greenland is not new. He had mentioned it in his first term and he is not the first US president to consider or study how our country could acquire Greenland. There is interest," he said.
