The love story of Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron, she was his teacher

A video circulating on social media has brought the world's attention back to the French presidential couple. In the video, Brigitte Macron - 72 - is seen giving her husband, President Emmanuel Macron - 47 - a light slap. While for some it was simply a strange moment in public, for others it was an incentive to recall the unusual love story of the most commented couple in European politics.
Their story began when Brigitte was his teacher at a Catholic school in Amiens and Emmanuel was only 15 years old. Their relationship at the time shocked his parents, who decided to remove the boy from the city, sending him to a boarding school in Paris – in the hope that his feelings would change. But that was not to be.
They maintained their relationship for nearly a decade, while Brigitte continued her family life with her three children and her then-husband. It was only after the children grew up and she divorced in 2006 that the couple made their relationship official, marrying the following year.
Brigitte has admitted that the decision to follow her heart wasn't easy. "I knew I was hurting my children, and that's the hardest thing for me," she told Elle magazine. "But life has moments when you have to choose."
Today, they are together as partners in life and in power. Although there are challenges, Brigitte says they try not to sleep far from each other and describes the relationship as an honest connection, full of dynamics like any other couple.
