Rama to "Bloomberg": Iran is not the only one behind the protests in Albania

Albania's government will not withdraw its support for two luxury tourism projects backed by Jared Kushner's investment firm, despite weeks of daily protests, Prime Minister Edi Rama told Bloomberg .
In several written comments, Rama stressed that his government must distinguish between “real protests” and “political theater,” as he described the protests against these projects.
According to him, citizens gave him a strong mandate in last year's elections to advance his vision of transforming Albania into a premium tourist destination and "not to govern according to hashtags or the loudest echo."
"Bloomberg" writes that projects supported by Jared Kushner's Affinity Partners have caused strong reactions in the country, especially for the development of coastal areas and the process of approving private investments.
However, according to Rama, " neither a noisy minority, nor the opposition, nor a wave of anger amplified on social networks will prevent the realization of the "Albania 2030" vision," adding that even external influences will not change the government's course.
Rama has previously accused the protests of being fueled by an " ecosystem of artificially inflated reactions on the internet," while warning that time will tell all the factors involved in this debate.
In his email to Bloomberg, he said time will tell that "Iran is not the only actor involved."
Bloomberg recalls that Albania is home to about 3,000 members of the exiled Iranian opposition organization, the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran. Last year, Iranian hackers attacked municipal services in Albania.
“Our standard is clear: law, science, transparency and European obligations – not hysteria,” Rama said. “We are opening the country, protecting its natural resources, attracting serious investment and moving decisively towards membership in the European Union.”
