Trump's statements/ European Council President: Greenland belongs to its people, EU does not support any violation of international law

"The European Union will support Greenland and Denmark when necessary and we will not accept violations of international law wherever they occur," European Council President Antonio Costa said today.

In his reaction, Costa made it clear that Greenland belongs to its people.

"Let me be clear: Greenland belongs to its people. Nothing can be decided about Denmark and Greenland without Denmark and without Greenland. They have the full support and solidarity of the European Union," he said.

Meanwhile, the US President has repeatedly said in recent days that he wants to take control of Greenland, saying the island is key to US military strategy and claiming that Denmark has not done enough to protect it.
