New Year, 8 special traditions that make Albanians stand out from others

New Year's Eve is celebrated all over the planet and is a holiday that brings together family members and loved ones. People in different parts of the world celebrate this night in different ways, but everyone believes that their wishes will come true in the coming year.
Unlike other countries in the world, or even among our neighbors, New Year's Eve is celebrated differently among Albanians. There are several traditions that distinguish us from others and where the word 'Albanians' takes on meaning.
Even though we don't eat much food every day, on New Year's Eve, the table should be full and overflowing. It's not enough if the turkey is on the table, since the head of the family has also bought two or three other types of meat that, in the end, no one touches.
Baklava,
the most popular dessert on the table, is prepared many days before the holiday. Some women still prefer to cook it themselves, while others entrust it to bakeries.
Drinks
There is no brand of alcohol missing from the table, whether carbonated, still or energy drinks. It doesn't matter whether they are drunk or not, what matters is that they are there.
Super cleaning of the house
Every corner of the house, the rooms, every piece of furniture should be cleaned. The new year should find every house clean. Is it clean and doesn't need it? It will be cleaned again. There is no doubt about it!
Fireworks war
From windows, balconies and wherever they can, Albanians will eagerly show off the endless arsenal of fireworks at home. Were their neighbors' fireworks more beautiful? No problem, on January 1st we'll do it again.
Lek in pie
Another tradition, pie with a hidden lek. The curiosity continues. Who will you give it to this year? With the increasing cost of living, the dilemma becomes greater. How much will we get in exchange for the lek? What fun and funny moments that add joy to the family table.
The party
is now known to everyone. Until before midnight with family, after midnight with friends. Breakfast? No one knows where to find us.
Who will enter the house first?
They say that when a little boy enters the house, the year will go well. Even more, the most important concern; to enter with the right foot. A tradition that is difficult to fade.
