Representatives of 16 families, whose homes are located near the high water channel at the Dajlan Bridge, were at the Durrës municipality today to find a solution after IKMT will demolish their homes.

For several days, they have been notified of the demolition of their homes due to the expansion of the canal, but state institutions have not even given them time to meet the legal deadline of 10 days to find another shelter.

IKMT has set a deadline for demolitions on Wednesday, while residents are demanding housing and a rental bonus from the municipality, because they cannot be thrown out on the street after 20 years of living there.

A representative of the Ushten organization, which protects the rights of the Roma and Egyptian communities, Ismail Jakupi, said that during the meeting, which was attended by municipality specialists, residents were promised that they would receive a rent bonus.

Despite residents' requests to postpone the demolition deadline, IMKT told residents' representatives that the demolition order would be implemented today, as heavy rain is expected over the next two days.

Earlier, Mayor Emiriana Sako announced on social media that the demolition of any building that impedes the expansion will continue, as well as the cleaning and maintenance of drainage channels.
