First hearing for the Tirana Incinerator / SPAK requests the reopening of the trial for Lefter Koka, the defense opposes

The first hearing on the merits of the Tirana incinerator case is held in the Special Anti-Corruption Appeal.

Dritan Prençi: At the moment when the decision was made by the GJKKO, there were no new circumstances, which we consider to be such and which this panel should now assess. We request a repeat of the judicial review to obtain some evidence regarding the appeal made by the parties. This also concerns Lefter Koka, against whom the arrest measure has been terminated. The court should assess the evidence that was administered in the first instance.

Defense of Lefter Koka: SPAK's request for the reopening of the trial is materially and procedurally unfounded. Lefter Koka has been convicted, not declared innocent. The legal basis that SPAK seeks for obtaining new evidence is not the right one to support the appeal. Koka was tried and investigated for the Tirana incinerator with the measure of "prison arrest", and on April 16, 2025 he pleaded guilty, which coincides with the time he was in custody and the court imposed a security measure against him because it coincided with the time he was in custody. We request the dismissal of the prosecutor's request.
