Italian football in mourning, the famous former Lazio and Napoli striker passes away at the age of 58

Former Italian striker Igor Protti has died at the age of 58 after a long battle with colon cancer.
The news was made public by his family through a message shared on social media.
In the announcement, the family also published a farewell message left by Protti, where he described his life as a "match that has reached the final whistle" and thanked his family, friends and fans for their support throughout his career.
Igor Protti was a well-known name in Italian football, especially for his time at Bari and Livorno, while also playing for teams such as Lazio and Napoli. He was remembered by fans as a combative striker and beloved by the public.
According to the family's message, the memorial service will take place at the Frongillo funeral home in Cecina, starting at 3 p.m.
Protti had previously spoken publicly about his illness, comparing it to a "difficult match" that had to be faced with determination, a reflection that had followed him until his last public appearance in late May, at his daughter's wedding.
