The preliminary hearing for the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, was postponed to December 12 at 09:30.
His lawyer, Artan Gjermeni, refused to give submissions, stating that defendant Veliaj has not yet been familiarized with the file.
Erion Veliaj has been in custody since February and is accused of a number of criminal offenses such as money laundering, failure to declare assets, passive corruption in 9 episodes, abuse of office, and bringing prohibited items into the cell.
We recall that on November 3, the Constitutional Court ruled in favor of Erion Veliaj, keeping him in office as mayor of Tirana. The Constitutional Court overturned the government's decision to dismiss him and annulled President Bajram Begaj's decree calling elections in Tirana.
On November 27, he again addressed the Constitutional Court, requesting the annulment of the decisions of the GJKKO, the Special Appeals Court, and the Supreme Court regarding the measure of 'prison arrest'.
