Betting scandal shakes Turkish football, Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray players arrested

Turkish prosecutors have ordered the detention of 46 people, including footballers from top-flight clubs, club presidents, commentators and others, as part of a widening investigation into insider betting in Turkey's professional leagues.
The ongoing investigation led to the arrest of several footballers, including players from Istanbul giants Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray.
The sports betting scandal that is rocking Turkish football continues to unfold with new developments. The latest came on Friday, when the Prosecutor's Office launched a major operation that resulted in 46 arrest warrants for players, coaches and referees.
Among the suspects is Mert Hakan Yandaş, the 31-year-old midfielder who is the current captain of Fenerbahçe. The player is accused of placing bets on his team's matches on legal betting sites through third parties. Furthermore, Yandaş has not played a single minute this season, while he has been a key player for José Mourinho in previous seasons.
Among the 26 other players banned are Galatasaray's Metehan Baltacı. Metin Korkmaz, president of Adanademirspor, and Emrah Çelik, sports director of Antalyaspor, were the active officials arrested.
According to the published document, authorities began the arrests at 07:15 local time, with most of the suspects detained in Istanbul province. Five of them are abroad and are being located to appear in court.
