The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has publicly rejected the claims of the DP Secretary General, Flamur Noka, regarding the signatures of Democratic MPs in support of Endrit Shabani.
Berisha has guaranteed that there was no order to sign Shabani's candidacy, excluding any role or influence of Ervin Salianj in this process.
According to Berisha, the signatures were given within the political climate created for the opposition to unite in the elections for the Municipality of Tirana and not as a result of organized or commanded decision-making.
"Endrit Shabani's candidacy was not signed by order. I guarantee this. There was no order from the leaders of the DP to sign. Its signing came in the context of the climate created for the unification for the Municipality of Tirana. There was no order to sign for Endrit Shabani. The signatures were a mistake, a hasty act. His election has nothing to do with the signatures because the signatures were withdrawn," said Berisha.
His statement comes a day after Flamur Noka's statement, who, after the meeting of the DP Presidency, spoke about the election of Endrit Shabani as People's Advocate and the signatures provided by Democratic MPs.
He said that several MPs have admitted that they were personally contacted by Ervin Salianji, also mentioning "rumors" according to which former MP Grida Duma would have been Prime Minister Edi Rama's negotiator for the election of Shabani.
