The toll from the Sydney massacre rises to 16, with 40 others injured. Four children in serious condition

The death toll from today's massacre at Bondi Beach in Sydney is rising.

The BBC reports that 5 more people have lost their lives, bringing the death toll to 16.

It is currently unclear whether the updated casualty toll includes any of the gunmen, as police had previously confirmed that one of the suspected attackers had been killed, while another was in critical condition.

It is reported that four children were transferred to hospital after the attack, adding that some of them were injured "very seriously".

New South Wales Police confirmed that about 40 people remain hospitalized after Sunday's shooting at Bondi Beach. Authorities said more information would be released later.
