The election of the new ombudsman was made official with the candidacy of Endri Shabani, a proposal from the right that was supported by the left.
The representative of the former politically persecuted, Besim Ndregjoni, clearly expressed his disappointment with Berisha for the new leader at the head of this institution. Ndregjoni was the first on the list of the Democrats, enriched by the name of Adriana Kala as a contender for this post. Ndregjoni said that giving votes for Shabani is a national political scandal and that in democratic countries the resignation should have been given.
"Shaban's signatures have led the Democratic Party to the greatest political crisis. The opposition must be strong to incite and denounce the parliament. I did not expect the opposition to choose me as their lawyer.
The ideological line is a problem in the DP: should we stick to the populism of the '90s or present a conservative party? This is the major problem.
I do not accept such an argument from Berisha. On December 3, one day before the nominations closed, the Constitutional Court did not allow local elections in Tirana. Here, those who have abstained from voting should come out and say to the politically persecuted: "Forgive us!".
"Voting for Shabani is a national political scandal, where in democratic countries they would have resigned. There is silence towards anti-communists."
