Meloni: We have been by Ukraine's side since day one, we do not miss the Soviet Union

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni closed the festival of her party, "Brothers of Italy", in Rome today with a speech focused on international developments and the achievements of her government over the last three years.
Referring to the war in Ukraine, Meloni emphasized Italy's unwavering support for the Ukrainian people.
"From day one we stood by the Ukrainian people, who are fighting neo-imperialism with a Soviet character. No one here feels nostalgia for the Soviet Union, which trampled half of Europe for half a century," she said.
Regarding transatlantic relations, the Italian Prime Minister acknowledged that Europe has long relied on the United States for its security.
"We entrusted our security to the US, thinking that today's challenges would never come, claiming that this would be cost-free, but it was not," Meloni declared.
She also emphasized that she has long supported the construction of a stronger European pillar within NATO, "with strength and dignity equal to the American one and capable of dialogue, with full rights, with all the great powers of the planet."
