Flamur Noka: Mereme Sela, the only democrat who meets the criteria to run for president of the DP

The Secretary General of the Democratic Party, Flamur Noka, has commented on the candidacy process for the party leadership, determining which of the names that have expressed interest in leading the Democratic Party are representatives of democratic values.

In a statement to the media from the blue headquarters, Noka justified the non-registration of Ervin Salianji and Alesia Balliu as candidates for president of the DP, accusing them of connections to figures close to the government. According to him, one is a "servant of Ergys Agas", while the other is "connected to Karlo Bolino", whom he labeled as "Vari Karlo".

"This door will never be open for Gysi. This door will never be open for 'Vari Karlo'. When the competition for Gysi's administrator opens, let them apply there. To be part of the DP, you must first be a democrat and not serve Rama, but the democrats," Noka said.

According to him, the only democrat who meets the criteria is Mereme Sela, whose request to run has been accepted by the party structures.

"Mereme Sela is a democrat, she is a member of the party. Fulfilling the criteria is a matter for the institutions, but she is a democrat," Noka declared.

The elections for the head of the Democratic Party are expected to be held on April 18. However, the short deadline for registering candidacies has attracted attention, as less than 24 hours elapsed between the publication of the decision and the submission of documents.

In the primaries a year ago to select DP candidates for the parliamentary elections of May 25, 2025, Mereme Sela received 43 votes in the Durrës district.
