Study: Smoking causes hair loss and premature graying

Smoking is proving to be one of the strongest factors linked to hair loss and premature graying, according to a new study that has raised concerns in the scientific and medical community. According to researchers, the chemicals found in cigarettes directly affect blood circulation and the health of hair follicle cells, causing damage that is often irreversible.
Researchers explain that smoking constricts blood vessels, significantly reducing the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the scalp. This makes it harder for hair to grow normally, leading to early hair loss and weakening of its structure. Furthermore, the toxic chemicals damage the DNA of new hair cells, which leads to an interruption of the natural growth cycle.
But the bad news doesn't stop there. The study shows that smokers are 2.5 times more likely to go gray early than non-smokers. Even more surprising is the discovery that the risk increases significantly even among people who say they smoke "only one cigarette a year." The effect, according to scientists, is related to the high sensitivity of hair follicles to smoke toxins, which cause oxidative stress and pigment loss.
Experts warn that these damages affect not only appearance, but also psychological well-being, as hair loss and early graying are often associated with decreased self-confidence.
The researchers' message is clear: quitting smoking is one of the fastest and most effective ways to protect hair health. And of course, each of us knows exactly who to pass this warning on to.
